Constructed of locally-quarried limestone and featuring a classic centre-hall plan, Tynavon is a paragon of history and elegance. As guests approach from Mill Street, they are greeted by Tynavon’s broad verandah, with its historic front entrance and mirror-image French doors.
From the rear, off-street, parking area (accessed via Queen Street on the east), a short flagstone path leads guests through the perennial garden to the house’s other gracious verandah with seating area.

Once inside, the main hall, living room and dining room comprise the guest accessible main floor. The main floor also houses the owners’ private rooms and kitchen. The wide staircase with burnished cherry banister leads to the second floor where all
four suites are located. The second floor also houses a
sitting room that overlooks the Grand River.
There are 14 steps to the main verandah; the central staircase comprises 17 stairs.
the guest living room:
After a day of discovering Elora’s many treasures, return to the guest living room at Tynavon for a well-deserved break.
Restful sofas and an elegant Bergère chair surround the Georgian-inspired hearth where guests may spend hours enjoying the radiant warmth of the gas fireplace. The walls, painted in Farrow & Ball’s sunny Ciara Yellow, brighten even the drabbest autumn day.
On a summer’s afternoon, the subtle green undertones of the paint complement the cool leafy light that illuminates the south-facing French doors. With two additional east-facing windows paned in original historic glass with 2-foot deep window seats, you are never without light or interesting architectural detail to soak up. Guests relish the understated luxury of Tynavon, whether indulging in afternoon tea in the Arts and Crafts appointed reading area, playing the Mission style upright grand piano, or awaiting breakfast in the morning.
the dining room:
Situated in the north end of the living room and adjacent to the fireplace, the dining room features a long antique table that each morning becomes the focal point of lively conversation and a delightful breakfast. With a spectacular stained glass window by local glass artists Neil Hanscomb and Gisela Ruehe, inspired by the scenic banks of the Elora Gorge, the dining room too complements the air of relaxation and comfort inherent in the living room.
the upstairs sitting room:
For more intimate conversations, viewing a film or a few moments of watching the news, the upstairs sitting room is the perfect choice. This room features an antique sofa and chair, a
television with DVD player, and a collection of classic and recent
movies. With views to the Grand River, it is a great place to relax or catch up with friends. There is also a small refrigerator and kettle for guest use.
The guest sitting room is also the location for our on-site
massage.
In High Season, we are pleased to offer a $20/night
discount for second and subsequent nights.
