Elora is home to some of the area’s finest restaurants.
Alex’s
Kitchen arrived in 2004 and instantly became a favourite with visitors and residents.
Bailey’s located in Metcalf offers an outdoor patio and varied menu. The Desert Rose specializes in vegetarian dishes. Resa’s butter tarts are difficult to turn down!
Entertainment
Entertainment in the area has its own unique flavour with different events each season.
The Gorge Cinema, housed in a former stone-garage building, shows an interesting mix of independent films and current releases. Don’t miss the outdoor screening offered monthly in the summer (weather permitting). The cinema operates year-round.
The internationally renowned Elora Festival Singers, a professional chamber choir, are the principle performers of the annual
Elora Festival. The Elora Festival features internationally acclaimed classical and jazz performers, with concerts staged in innovative venues from local churches to the Gambrel Barn – an acoustically stunning structure that serves as the location for road salt storage in the winter. No matter the performer, an evening at the Elora Festival will be an experience not soon forgotten.
The Festival runs from July 14-August 6, 2006.
Theatre events in Elora and surrounding area are growing in popularity. The Drayton Theatre Festival (45 minutes drive from Elora) draws larger audiences each year.
A number of the local pubs and restaurants provide live music Friday evenings. At 9:00pm, The Dalby House offers Celtic music performances by local musicians. Get there early to grab a good seat!
The Grand River Raceway runs harness races Monday and Friday evenings. Slot machines are available year round. There is an outdoor concession
stand.
Attractions
Elora Gorge and Quarry, Fly Fishing, Cataract Trail
The natural beauty of Elora and surrounding Wellington County provide many attractions: the Grand River, Elora Gorge and Quarry are probably the most well known and popular. Visitors and locals can swim, fish, tube or just relax by the banks.
The Grand, a Canadian Heritage River since 1994, is one of Canada’s top fly-fishing rivers with a reputation that draws anglers from across North America and Europe. In 2006, the Grand River hosts the Canadian Fly Fishing Championships with anglers from across the country vying for the honour of representing Canada at the World Fly Fishing Championships in Portugal. Whether a beginner or an experienced angler, local outfitters can provide the equipment and expertise to make your time on the Grand unforgettable.
The Cataract Trail, linking the communities of Elora and Cataract, offers visitors forty-seven kilometres of multi-use trails perfect for biking and hiking. Built along abandoned rail lines, the grade of the trail is perfect for a leisurely ride or walk through the idyllic countryside of Wellington County and Peel Region.
